Five Alpine Shire businesses up for state tourism awards

Alpine Shire’s tourism industry has received state-wide recognition with five local businesses nominated for RACV Victorian Tourism Awards, including the Council owned and operated Alpine Visitor Information Centre (VIC).

Bogong Horseback Adventures, Svarmisk Resort and Spa in Mount Beauty, the Bright Brewery and Bright’s Ovens Valley Motor Inn, along with the Alpine VIC, will be hoping their names are read out at the RACV Victorian Tourism Awards gala ceremony, to be held on Monday, 15 November.

Manager Strategic Services John Carter congratulated the local businesses for their nominations.

“These hard-working businesses are extremely deserving of recognition from Tourism Victoria,” he said.

“It is also a great reminder to residents and visitors of the quality tourism product on offer in the Alpine Shire.

“Alpine Shire businesses have been consistent finalists at the Tourism Awards over the past couple of years, proving the quality of attractions and accommodation options available.

"The Ovens Valley Motor Inn won the award for standard accommodation in 2009 and 2008, and was a finalist in the category in 2007.

“In 2008/2009 it was estimated that visitors spent up to $170 million in the Alpine Shire.

“The tourism industry is a vital economic driver of the Alpine Shire and is something we will continue to build on.

“Council is also pleased to see the Alpine Visitor Information Centre nominated for an award.

"With the help of a Regional Development Victoria grant, significant improvements have been made to allow local products to be showcased and to enhance the advertisement of local attractions.”
