Council announces $90,000 community grants program

Council is again offering $90,000 to community groups through its 2010 / 2011 Community Grants program, with applications open until Tuesday, 21 December.

Manager Community Services Trevor Britten said Council is committed to supporting the valuable activities of community groups and organisations throughout the Alpine Shire.

“The 2010 / 2011 Community Grants program will again provide a funding opportunity to assist groups in arts and culture, sport, recreation, community events, community strengthen and the environment,” he said.

“Our community groups make a valuable contribution to life in the Alpine Shire.

"They boost participation rates and contribute to community wellbeing through the range of services, opportunties and events they offer.

“From last years program Council contributed funding towards 22 worthy community projects.

“They included the installation of a rainwater tank and irrigation system at the Myrtleford Bowls Club, an upgrade to the Mount Beauty recreation reserve’s irrigation system and funding to the Bright and District Historical Society and the Riverside Walks Committee to educate residents and tourists on the rich heritage of Bright.

“Potential applicants for the Community Grants program are advised to contact Grants Administrator Jan Mock to discuss the suitability of their proposed project prior to an application being submitted.”
