Development industry urged to prepare for fire regulations

Council is encouraging development industry members to get prepared for bushfire season by learning about planning and building regulations at one of Council’s development industry forums.

The forums, held on the next three Thursdays, provide a chance to learn about bushfire regulations affecting the development industry, learn how to find information online, meet Council staff informally and be briefed on recent changes by Council to improve its standard of service.

CEO Ian Nicholls said that it was an ideal time to be updated on bushfire regulations with the Victorian Government’s Fire Action Week 2010 starting on Sunday.

“There is some confusion around building and planning regulations, especially relating to bushfires,” he said.

“These forums provide an opportunity to have all questions answered so the development industry can be fully informed and better prepared for fire season.

“Fire season is only weeks away and the Royal Commission’s findings from the 2009 bushfires have will have an impact on planning and building regulations.

“These development forums are a proactive step by Council to improve our standard of service and our relationship with the development industry.”

The forums will be held at the Alpine Gate Cafe in Myrtleford on Thursday, 14 October, The Mount Beauty Country Club on 21 October and at the Alpine Visitor Information Centre in Bright on 28 October, all starting at 5pm.

Refreshments and light snacks will be provided.

The forums are open to people involved in the development industry.

People interested in attending should call (03) 5755 0530 or email info@alpineshire.vic.gov.au.
