Best local photographers on show in free calendar for ratepayers

Ratepayers will soon be able to enjoy the work of the most talented local photographers in the Alpine Shire from the comfort of their own home.

Ratepayers will soon begin to receive their free 2011 Alpine Shire calendar, featuring the 12 winning photographs from Council’s annual Snapshot Photography Competition.

The winning photos were unveiled on Thursday, 2 September at a presentation ceremony at the Alpine Visitor Information Centre.

45 photographers submitted over 250 photos for the competition with some stunning results.

Mayor Cr Nino Mautone was there to congratulate the winners and was impressed by the quality of photographs.

“The aim of the competition is to give residents and ratepayers an opportunity to show us what they love about life in the Alpine Shire,” Cr Mautone said.

“This year the entries were judged by a panel of internal judges who were very impressed with the quality and diversity of the photographs entered.

“I would like to thank all those who entered and I am looking forward to seeing some more great entries next year.”

The $1000 major prize, sponsored by Council and Dahlsens Building Centre and Ovens Retravision, was won by Lee Docherty of Mount Beauty for her photograph ‘Playing amongst the wildflowers’, taken in Alpine National Park.

The winning image will feature on the front cover of the calendar as well as for the month of October.

The photographers of the remaining 11 photographs featured in the calendar won a $50 gift voucher to be redeemed at the business of their choice within the Alpine Shire.

Printing of the 2011 Alpine Shire Calendar is underway with distribution expected to begin in October.
