Alpine restaurants receive chef hats

The Alpine Shire’s reputation for fine food has received state wide recognition with two restaurants receiving chef hats from The Age’s Good Food Guide awards for 2011.

Bright restaurants Simone’s of Bright and Villa Gusto both received one chef hat from the awards.

Mayor Cr Nino Mautone said the awards are great recognition for not only the individual restaurants, but for the Great Alpine Valleys food industry.

“The Great Alpine Valleys has a fine reputation for its cafes and restaurants,” he said.

“To boast two chef hat award winning restaurants boosts our reputation for fine food.

"These awards are highly prestigious and respected in Victoria.

"While Villa Gusto and Simone’s Restaurant will obviously benefit from the increased exposure, their fine food will attract more visitors to the region which will have a flow-on effect to other businesses.”

Both restaurants have previously been awarded chef hats’ awards, however Villa Gusto has not received one since 2007.

“Simone’s of Bright has a long-standing history of being recognised across the country,” Cr Mautone said.

“It was Simone’s that first helped put the region on the map for its local produce, so this acknowledgement is another fitting reward.

“I offer my congratulations to both restaurants.

"They are truly quality experiences and in both cases a lot of hard work and attention to detail has been required to get recognition.

“These two restaurants are part of why we continue to attract thousands of visitors each year.

"We have so much to offer in the Great Alpine Valleys.”
