Tawonga kids to play in shade

Tawonga parents will be able to rest easy when summer returns.

Their children will finally be able to play in the shade on the Tawonga Pioneer Memorial Park playground.

Two shade sails were recently installed as part of a Community Building Initiative project organised through the Tawonga District Community Committee Inc. The committee have been working on improving the playground for some time and recognised shade as a priority.

The committee were granted $23,180 from the Macpherson Smith Community Alliance something Community Building Facilitator Jan Mock said was an outstanding effort.

“It is a credit to the local committee for putting together a successful funding application and following through on the installation of the shade sails,” she said.

“To see a small community band together for the one goal is always great to see. Now the children in Tawonga have somewhere safe and sun smart to play.”

The Committee has also ordered additional playground equipment which should be installed during winter. This adds to the new swing set purchased by the Upper Kiewa Valley Ladies Lions Club that was installed during autumn.
