Last days of autumn program

The Autumn in the Great Alpine Valleys program comes to a close this weekend with the Mount Beauty half-marathon and Myrtleford’s La Fiera Italian Festival finale.

The final weekend of the La Fiera festival will feature the world’s longest pasta lunch, the arrival of the Italian connection trophy rally cars and a fireworks display at the McNamara Reserve on Sunday night.

The Mount Beauty half-marathon will cater for people of all ages and abilities with 3, 10 and 21km tracks to choose from. The race is one of Australia’s most scenic with the autumn leaves providing a spectacular back-drop.

The red, yellow and brown colour scheme has made for some great photos after a heavy growing season in summer. But now Council has started the long task of cleaning up after heavy canopies of leaves fell in autumn.

Council will spend the next two months sucking up the leaves before recycling them into compost.

Residents are reminded that the burning off of leaves is illegal according to Amenity Local Law Number 5. The law states that the burning of tree limbs and prunings is permitted between 10am and 3pm in residential areas. However fallen leaves, lawn clippings, hulls, burrs and casings from nut trees are not permitted to be burnt off.
