Mount Beauty Skate Park

Draft concept for Mount Beauty Skate Park

Alpine Shire Council had 65 people, mostly local and mostly aged between 10 and 17 years old, respond to a questionnaire on preferences for an upgrade of the Mount Beauty Skate Park. Based on the results, we have come up with a draft concept for the Skate Park, which we’ve attached to this email.

What you said:
> The overwhelming majority of respondents chose a street/plaza style (44 votes) over a skate bowl (17 votes);
> Street style, plaza, flow + transition elements were most preferred;
> You were most excited about skate, BMX and scooter spaces, free Wi-Fi and outdoor speakers;
> You were less excited about hang out space and seating, lighting, band/stage area, shade or shelter and trees; and
> You were least concerned about the inclusion of multi-purpose courts.

When will the upgrade start?
Council is applying for State Government funding for this project through the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund. This is quite a lengthy two-stage process and we won’t know if we are successful until after November 2017.

If we are successful in receiving funding, we will prepare detailed plans for tendering and construction in 2018.

What happens next?
It’s not too late to provide feedback on the draft concept. If you have more to say, please have a look at the attached drawings and let us know before 5 pm next Wednesday, 21 June, via return email or via Facebook. We will then review any feedback received and finalise the plans.

Thank you for your interest in the project!
