The Mafeking Square Precinct Upgrade works are now progressing well, please note the following advice with regard to the project. Once again, we thank you for your patience, as we appreciate that these works are highly disruptive.
ROAD CLOSURE – Friday, 3 March 2017
We advise that Ireland Street (between Cobden and Camp Streets) and the south bound lane of Anderson Street (between Wood Street and the roundabout) will be closed Friday, 3 March between 6 and 9 am to enable trenching to occur across the road in two locations within the roundabout. Traffic diversions will be in place during the closure.
Traffic movements which exit north into Anderson Street, via the roundabout from Burke Street will remain open. Barnard Street to Camp Street will also remain open. All lanes will be re-opened by 9 am.
The issues with services have now been resolved and we have been able to progress works in the area on the east side of Ireland Street, between the NAB and the Op Shop (Shop 26). We are working on this area as a priority and are aiming to complete the majority of the footpath and kerb works by the end of next week.
IRELAND STREET – NORTH BOUND
The newly aligned north bound traffic lane is now in place. Asphalting of this surface will take place later in the program when all other road surfaces are paved, so in the meantime, please take care when driving on this gravel surface.
Demolition and construction works will continue behind the new kerb in the vicinity of the Uniting Church in the coming weeks.
Construction of the area inside the roundabout is continuing. Demolition of the surfaces is largely complete and the stone wall seating and electrical works have commenced.
The works on the west side of Mafeking Square between JD’s Ski Shop and Bright Escapes will not commence prior to the Labour Day weekend (11-13 March). Some isolated service works may be undertaken in the coming fortnight, however disruption will be minimal and any disturbed surfaces will be temporarily reinstated.
Traffic and pedestrian management will continue to be in place to control access to the shops, so for your own safety, please comply with all signage and do not enter the construction areas.
There will be increased noise, heavy vehicle traffic, disruptions and detours in the Bright town centre throughout the duration of the works. We anticipate that the works will be complete by Easter 2017. We encourage you to park in the Burke Street, Wills Street and Senior Citizens Centre off street car parks for the duration. We will provide regular project updates via email, our Facebook page and website.
We understand these works will cause inconvenience and thank you for your patience during this time.
