L2P Learner Mentor Driver Program

Do you have barriers making it difficult to complete the 120 hours of driving experience required for you to go for your P plates?

The L2P program is a state wide initiative managed by Vic Roads. It is aimed at assisting young learner drivers (aged from 16 – 20) who are facing significant barriers to completing the 120 mandatory hours of on road driving experience.

L2P is a community based volunteer program designed to provide access to driving practice on public roads for learner drivers under the supervision of a fully licenced driver. Learner drivers are matched with a volunteer supervising driver (Mentor) from the community, who works with the learner so that they can achieve their goal of 120 hours.

The L2P Program is based on a four stage graduated licensing system with a professional driving instructor guiding the learner’s progress. Learners have access to up to 7 free lessons with a registered driving school throughout their time in the L2P program to assess their progress and improve their skills. At the start of the program the learner is assessed by a professional driving instructor to determine their level of driving competence.

If you live in the Alpine Shire, already have your Learner’s Permit and you need help to get your driving hours, call Alpine Shire L2P Coordinator on 0418 736 665 or email L2P@alpineshire.vic.gov.au or see links below for more information.

L2P Volunteer Mentors

The Alpine Shire L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program is always keen to engage community minded volunteers as supervising drivers to support a young person in our Shire.

As a mentor you will assist learners to acquire the 120 hours of supervised driving prior to sitting for their probationary licence. The learners progress will be guided by a professional driving instructor.

Mentors must have a full drivers licence, undertake a Police Check, Driver History Check and Working with Children Check and be able to commit a minimum of 2 hours per week. Volunteers will undertake comprehensive VicRoads training which includes an e-learning module and a one-day training session. You will be supported in your role by the program coordinator and invited to monthly mentor meetings.

If you are interested in volunteering with the program to help a young person in our community become a safer drivers, call the L2P Coordinator on 0418 736 665 or email L2P@alpineshire.vic.gov.au.
